I went back to beautiful Key West on a day trip this past Saturday with my fiancee. All I can say is I had a totally different experience than the first time for two reasons:
- It was an absolutely gorgeous day. Sun was shining, not too hot, and just beautiful.
- Since last week when I decided one day a week was going to be a completely untracked macro break, I decided Saturday was going to be that day. I NEVER drink like I did on Saturday, but, memories over experiences sometimes.
We started our morning parking on Duval street and heading to Schooners Wharf. One the walk, we stopped at the Flying Monkey. Frozen daiquiris are one of my weaknesses when it comes to alcoholic beverages. I ordered the Pina Colada. My fiance ordered the Grainiac.
The drinks were absolutely amazing. I sucked mine down in a matter of two minutes. That’s very rare on my end.
Our next stop was Schooners Wharf for lunch. I decided on the 1/2 lb drunken peel and eat shrimp. The shrimp were amazing, who doesn’t want pink Key West shrimp while in Key West?! My fiancee ordered the mahi-mahi taco wrap, which was equally as yummy. We also got drinks here. I ordered the Key Lime Pie Mojito, OMG. If you’re a fan of mojito’s this would be your dream drink.
After lunch we had some time to kill so we explored a little bit before making our next stop which was….
KEY WEST WINERY! Ok, so we got a Groupon for this place and I have no regrets. We got to taste 8 wines each, received a wine pouch per person, a travel corkscrew, and two glasses. Every single wine we tried was absolutely phenomenal. I opted for the blueberry wine pouch and the fiancee picked the key lime.
After filling ourselves with boozes and taking in all the shops we stopped for some ice cream at Flamingo Crossing. I don’t eat dairy because of skin and digestive issues BUT, it had such good reviews and I had to try key lime everything, so key lime ice cream it was.
Small trick- order a kids sized. They usually will use a smaller ounce ice cream scooper, closer to a recommended serving size. I could eat this every day, nuff’ said.
We watched the drag races, went into shops, checked out the beach, and then made our way to our next alcoholic drink stop, Gas Monkey. We stopped here for happy hour but I ordered off the regular drink menu.
I ordered the frozen key lime pie drink. I don’t know what was in this drink but it was heaven. It was also topped with whip cream and crushed graham cracker. Safe to say, I crushed this drink. My fiancee ordered margaritas off the drink menu and he really liked them also. After this we went to dinner to refuel. We picked Blue Heaven for dinner and I don’t regret it.
I ordered the jerk chicken and got roasted red potatoes as my side. My fiancee ordered the caribbean shrimp with rice and beans. Safe to say, it did not disappoint. Blue heaven rounded out our food and drink tour of Key West.
I honestly can’t wait to go back. I did pay for it the next day as it is something my body totally isn’t use to. I am not a drinker by any means but I don’t regret a bit of the day. I enjoyed myself, experienced the island, and made amazing memories with my soon-to-be husband.
Overall experience 10/10.
Happy Travels!
